Field panel settings in Basic Forms

This article provides information about how to use the Field panel settings in the Basic Form Builder.

Admins and Designers can use Field panel settings to control how fields look, behave, store data, and collect information.


Field panel settings

Field panel settings determine how each field behaves and how users interact with it while completing a submission. Field panel settings automatically open on the right side of the Builder when a field is selected on the PDF.

Field panel overview

Label

Label

A name or description shown next to the field to tell users what to enter so they can complete the form correctly. Available on all fields except the Static Text field.

Type

Displays the current field Type for the selected field. Expand the dropdown menu to select another. Available on all fields.

Config

Style

Controls how the field looks and behaves for users filling out the form. Supported fields and their Styles:

  • Single Choice: Radio Buttons and Boxes
  • Multiple Choice: Checkboxes and Buttons
  • Number: Number, Increment, Slider, and Currency
  • Time: AM/PM, 24 Hour, HH:MM:SS, and MM:SS
  • Date: MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, and YYYY/MM/DD
Default

A value that automatically appears when a user starts a new submission. 

  • Available for Short Text, Long Text, Number, Rating, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Date, and Time field Types.
Format

Controls how data in the field is displayed and structured. Supported fields and their Formats:

  • Short Text: None, Email, and Number
  • Calculation: 1, 1.0, 1.00, 1.000, 1.0000, 1.00000, 1.000000, HH:MM, HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, and Currency
System Default

Fills a Short Text field with account or user-specific information pulled from GoCanvas. Options include:

  • Username
  • Company Name
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Full Name
Minimum

Sets the lowest numeric value a user can enter in a Number field. Entered values must be greater than or equal to this value.

Maximum

Sets the highest numeric value a user can enter in a Number field. Entered values must be less than or equal to this value.

Required

Makes a field mandatory. Users must enter a value before moving to the next screen or submitting the form.

  • Available for Short Text, Long Text, Number, Dropdown, Rating, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Photo, Signature, Date, Time, and Checkbox field Types.
Read Only

Displays a field value on the form but does not allow users to change it.

  • Available for Short Text, Long Text, Number, Rating, Date, and Time.

Design

Defines how a field looks and is positioned on the PDF without changing the data it collects

Position

Controls where a field appears on the page, so you can align it with your PDF. Adjust its X value to move it left or right, and its Y value to move it up or down.

Dimensions

Sets the width and height of a field on the PDF. Make it larger to fit longer answers or smaller to avoid covering PDF text.

GoCanvas Tip

You can also click and drag a field to reposition and resize it with the square control points. This automatically updates the Position and Dimensions settings.

Background

Fills a color behind the date in a field. The default is a transparent background.

Hide On PDF

Hides a field and its value on the generated PDF output, even if they are visible while completing the form on mobile or Web Client.
