This article explains how to add and configure a Photo field in the Basic Form Builder so users can capture images.

Admins and Designers can use Photo fields to capture site conditions, assets, or incidents, adding clear visual context to each submission.


Photo fields

A Photo field lets users capture or upload images in the form, attaching visual records like site photos, receipts, or equipment.

Note

In the Basic Form Builder, each Photo field accepts one image. Add a Photo field for every picture the form requires.

Add a Photo field

To add a new Photo field in the Basic Form Builder:

  1. Create a new form using your preferred Basic Form Builder option.

  2. Add or select a Photo field using the applicable method:
    • If a field already exists on the PDF: Select the field on your PDF. On the right side, in the Field panel, expand the Type dropdown menu and select Photo.
    • If adding a new field: On the left, in the Add panel, drag a Photo field onto your PDF.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the Builder, click Save, then Test the field, and click Publish and Assign to users.

Note

Resize the Photo filed to match your PDF. Uploaded photos will adjust to the field's shape and proportions.

Required

Makes the Photo field mandatory, so users must upload an image before moving to the next screen or to submit the form.

Advanced panel

Image Source

Controls whether users can take new photos, use existing photos, or both when uploading images. The Image Source options include:

  • Camera or Gallery: Users can either take a new photos with their camera or select an existing photo from their gallery.
  • Camera Only: Users can only take and upload new photos using their device's camera.
  • Gallery Only: Users can only upload photos that already exist in their device's photo gallery.
Tile Photo

Displays your images in the smallest size on the Standard PDF to save space and keep layouts compact. If you turn on Tile Photo, you cannot change the Photo Size.

Photo Size

Controls the visual size of the photo, helping you manage image quality and file size on the Standard PDF. The Photo Size options include:

  • Smallest: The tiniest image size, saving the most space.
  • Thumbnail: A small preview-sized image, slightly larger than Smallest.
  • Small: A compact image size.
  • Medium: A medium image size for clearer detail.
  • Largest: The biggest image size for maximum detail.
Allow Unsecured
Access

Allows anyone with the CSV export file to open the image URL without logging in to GoCanvas.

Note

After a user captures around 50+ images, the form may slow down or fail depending on the device's connection and memory.
