This article explains how to add, configure, and use Number fields in the Basic Form Builder, including their Styles, limits, and calculation capabilities.

Admins and Designers can use Number fields to capture numeric input, enabling accurate data entry, and calculations within workflows.

Number fields

Number fields help you capture clean, usable numeric data, connect it to Reference Data, and automate calculations in your forms.

Please Note

If you need to capture nominal numbers, such as names, codes, or phone numbers, please use a Short Text field in the Format of Number.

Add a Number field

To add a new Number field in the Basic Form Builder:

  1. Create a new form using your preferred Basic Form Builder option.

    Build from Scratch.gif
  2. Add or select a Number field using the applicable method:
    • If a field already exists on the PDF: Select the field on your PDF. On the right side, in the Field panel, expand the Type dropdown menu and select Number.
    • If adding a new field: On the left, in the Add panel, drag a Number field onto your PDF.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the Builder, click Save, then Test the field, and click Publish and Assign to users.

Number field Styles

A Number field has four Styles which control how users enter numeric values and how those values behave:

  • Number is used to collect numeric values that can also be used in Calculations within your form.
  • Increment lets users increase or decrease a value one step at a time using plus and minus buttons.
  • Slider allows users to make a selection from a range using a point on a horizontal axis.
  • Currency adds a currency symbol and fixes the value to two decimal places for monetary amounts.

Note

Currency symbols are determined by your device's location settings; change your device's location if you need to use a different currency.

Change Number field Style

To configure a Number field in the Basic Form Builder:

  1. Select an existing Number field on your PDF.
  2. On the right side, in the Field panel, expand the Style dropdown menu to select your preference (Number is the default).

    Note

The Advanced panel's Decimal Places dropdown menu controls decimals for Number. Currency always uses two decimal places and cannot change.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the Builder, click Save, then Test the field, and click Publish and Assign to users.

On Standard PDFs and Quick Start PDFs, responses to Number fields display as numeric values. When you edit submission data from the Submissions page or the Submitted tab in Work Hub or Projects, you can manually update those values.
