Remember and Recall allows users to save values for certain fields or recall a value from previous submission.
Enabling Remember and Recall
Remember and Recall has to be enabled on a form-by-form basis.
- Navigate to the Forms page and click on the name of the form.
- Under Settings, find Remember & Recall and toggle the switch to on.
Using the Remember Feature
This comes in handy when you have to complete multiple submissions on one form and there will always be the same value entered into certain fields.
This feature works for the following fields:
- Short and Long Text;
- Number, Increment, Slider, and Rating;
- Drop Down, Multi Choice, Single Choice Boxes, and Multiple Choice Buttons;
- Date and Time.
Using Remember
- Open the GoCanvas application and select the form to start a new submission.
- Tap the Menu button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Remember.
- Toggle on the fields for that screen to be Remembered.
- Select Done.
Once you have completed the submission and launch a new one, the fields will be populated with the previously entered data.
Please Note
It is important to deselect Remember once you do not need the field values to be Remembered. Otherwise every time you launch the form you will have the previously Remembered fields populating with the previously entered data.
Using Remember with a Receipt Label
This feature can also be used across forms or across differently named fields within the same form. To enable this you will need to enter the same value for the Receipt Label under More Field Settings when editing the field in the Form Builder.
Using the Recall Feature
Similar to Remember, Recall comes in handy if you complete a submission for a form and start another that needs the same data entered in the last submission. But the main difference is this is for when the user does not know before submitting the previous submission that the data will be repeated in the next submission. However, the tradeoff is that this only works when the similar submissions are in succession because it can only recall the data from the previous submission.
Using Recall
- Complete a Submission and launch a new submission with the same form.
- Tap the Menu button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Recall.
- Select the fields/values that you would like to be Recalled.
- Select Done.

Maybe this was in the community forum somewhere but I learned this the hard way through trial and error. It's important to know that if you have the same field name on two different screens, for example 'Comments', that 'Comments' field must have a unique identifier in the 'Receipts Label' in the 'More Field Settings' for each field, otherwise, instead of remembering your last entry on that screen, when you start a new form, it will only enter the last data you previously entered in the identical field on the last screen you visited. For example, you enter "Testing 1" in the 'Comments' of screen 1. Then "Testing 2" in the 'Comments' of screen 2. Unless each field has a unique identifier in the 'Receipts Label', after you submit and start another form, the value remembered in the 'Comments' of both Screen 1 & Screen 2 will be "Testing 2". This is also a close kin to exporting data using the export label field in 'More Field Settings'.
This is an awesome tip to share, thank you Keith!
