Once a Mobile Attachment field is added to your form, attaching a document in your mobile application is quite simple.

Attachments on Mobile

Since we covered adding the Mobile Attachment field to a form as well as the limitations of the field in the Help Center article, "Adding a Mobile Attachment Field to a Form," let's now cover how to interact with the field on mobile.

Attaching a File on Mobile

Open your GoCanvas application and sync your device to ensure that the most recent version with the Mobile Attachment field is available to fill out.

  1. Start a new submission:
    • From the Forms tab, select the tile of the form.
    • From the Tasks tab, select the + icon in the upper right corner of the screen to start a new task. Search the form name and select the form name.
  2. If your account has Project Management View, assign the submission to a customer or skip that step to start the submission. If not, the new submission will start automatically.

  3. Complete the form as normal to reach the Mobile Attachment field. It will say "Attach File" in black text to indicate there is no file attached.
  4. Tap the field to open the file storage application on your mobile device.
  5. Select the file needed, the file app will close automatically, and the field will now say, "File Attached" in green text.

  6. If needed, the file can be removed by tapping the field again and select Remove on the pop-up.

  7. Finish the rest of the fields and submit. Due to the size of files, it takes longer to connect to the GoCanvas servers. The following will pop-up on the screen after tapping Submit. The submission will be safely completed on the next sync, which the user can manually do if the device is connect to the internet.

Additional Details

Most of the limitations of Mobile Attachments are covered in the article, "Adding a Mobile Attachment Field to a Form," but there are a few important details of note related to completing a submission. Primarily, Attachments cannot be dispatched to a user at this time. The only way for a submission to have an attachment is by the user themselves in the process of completing a submission. By extension, admins cannot send attachments from the GoCanvas portal to the user on mobile by any means at this time.

Mobile Attachments do work with handoffs, either with Workflow or Assignments. The next user will have the option to download or delete an existing attachment. The user will then be able to replace the attachment with another file.

Finally, the URLs of the Mobile Attachment can be pulled into an GoCanvas Analytics dashboard or sent to another software via GoCanvas Integrations. The Attachments can also be accessed through the API. Please contact your Account Representative for more details.
