Using One Email for Multiple GoCanvas Accounts using Email Aliasing

Issue

You may need to use what is essentially the same email address for multiple GoCanvas users or accounts. Since the exact same email (for example, john@gocanvas.com) cannot be used more than once, you can use email aliasing to create variations that all still deliver mail to your original inbox. This is done by using + just before the domain of an email address to create a unique email within our system while still effectively using the same email address.

Solution

You can create unique-looking email addresses by adding + and any word or number before the @ sign. Most email providers treat this as the same inbox, so all notifications still go to your original address.

For example, if your main email is john@gocanvas.com and you need to use it on a second GoCanvas account, you can enter john+company2@gocanvas.com. Both addresses will deliver mail to the john@gocanvas.com inbox. You can repeat this pattern as many times as needed (for example, john+company3@gocanvas.com, john+admin@gocanvas.com, etc.).

Step by Step

Go to gocanvas.com and log in.

  1. Click Profile in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click the Change Email button.
  3. Update your email to include the + variation. For example, change john2@gocanvas.com to john+company2@gocanvas.com.
  4. Click Change Email to save your changes and complete any verification steps if prompted.

Step-by-step: Admin adding a user

  1. If you have Departments enabled, set the department filter at the top left to All.
  2. Go to Account > Users.
  3. Scroll down and click the plus icon to add a user to an open seat.
  4. Enter the desired email using the + variation. For example, if john@gocanvas.com is already used on another account, you can enter john+company2@gocanvas.com.
  5. Complete the rest of the user setup.

Note

Please remember that changing the email still needs to follow the SOCII email verification process.
