This article is dedicated to explaining each of the Elements in the PDF Designer and how they can be configured to create the desired experience for the viewing audience.

Elements

Designing the PDF is about audience: who is this PDF meant for and what data does that audience need from the PDF?

Elements allow Admins and Designers to curate the PDF experience for the appropriate audience with components that are not in the form.

Please Note

The PDF Designer is only available on forms built in the Advanced Form Builder.

Add Elements

To add Elements to your PDF design:

  1. In the left navigation, click Forms.
  2. On the right side of the Forms page, in line with the form you wish to edit, click Edit PDF.
  3. On the left side of the Designer, click the Elements tab.

  4. Click the Element to drag and drop it into a Section or Column in the center workspace.
  5. Configure Element settings.

    Please Note

Text, Social, and Image Elements require additional configuration while Submission No. has optional configuration. Page Break is the only one without configuration options.

  6. In the upper-right corner of the Designer, click Save, Preview, and Close when done.

Note

Elements placed in the Header or Footer of your design will appear on each page of your PDF output.

Configure Elements

Static text that appears only on the PDF. Use optional Element Settings to represent your brand or engage your audience with hyperlinks to your website.

Add bold, italic, or underline emphasis to the text. Each option will turn blue when selected.

A static image that appears only on the PDF. Engage your audience with your company's logo, coupons, or any other image that reflects your brand.

Upload Image

Click Choose Files to upload an image directly from your computer. This is a required configuration step.

Image URL

Reference a file using a URL. Referencing a file with a URL only works if someone is viewing the PDF online so most users opt for uploading an image directly.

Global Settings

Deselect the Use Global Settings checkbox to manipulate the Vertical Spacing and Borders independently for this Element.

Social

The Social Element allows you to embed links to your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Angie's List, Google Reviews, Home Adviser, and/or Yelp pages to ask clients for reviews, follows, and likes.

To add a link to your social media:

  1. Select the box next to its icon.
  2. In the textbox below, enter the URL to your public social media page.
Alignment

Orient the Social Element within the field. The options are Left align (default), Center align, and Right align. Each option will turn blue when selected.

GoCanvas Tip

If you have a page on a social media site not listed here, add the icon as an Image Element and use Web Link to hyperlink to your page.

Page Break

Page Break is the only element that does not have specific settings and only impacts where a new page starts in the PDF.

Please Note

There is no way to know where pages break organically without submissions.

Submission No.

This Element is connected to the Submission Number configured in Form Settings. If the setting is not turned on for the form, the Element will be greyed out.

Background Color

Add a background color to the Submission Number field using the color picker or a hexadecimal code.

Style

Add bold, italic, or underline emphasis to the Submission Number. Each option will turn blue when selected.

Alignment

Orient the Submission Number within the field. The options are Left align (default), Center align, and Right align. Each option will turn blue when selected.
