Sections and Columns are the building blocks of the PDF Designer and Page Breaks will guarantee where a page will end and a new page will begin.
PDF Designer
The layout of the PDF relies almost exclusively on sections and columns so it is important to utilize them effectively in your design.
Navigate to the PDF Designer
The PDF Designer is accessible from several locations in the portal.
- Navigate to the Forms page and select the Edit PDF icon.
- Or if you are already in the Builder, toggle to the PDF Designer using the button at the top of the screen.
- If you have other form settings to configure, you can access the PDF Designer from the Form Settings page as well. Scroll to the setting PDF Options, select the Settings button in the box, and select Launch PDF Designer in the right corner of the page.
Adding Sections
To add a new Section under the last existing section of the PDF, hover your pointer over a blank area in your design. The Click to add Section option will appear in the first available position for a new section to be added.
Sections can also be used to create blank space by selecting the Click to add Section button one or more times. Any unpopulated sections will appear blank in the output.
Alternatively, if the section that you want to add is between existing sections, hover over the section below where the new section will go until a menu pops out to the right of the workspace. Select Add Section Above.
Sections can also be deleted by hovering over the section to be deleted until the menu pops out and selecting Delete Section.
Adding Columns
You can further customize your sections by dividing them into Columns. Hover your pointer over an existing column to reveal the section properties. Select Add Column when you want to divide a section, or Remove Column when columns should be deleted. Columns are designated by the dotted line only when hovering over that section. Use column borders to indicate the columns permanently.
Note
If a field has already been added to a section, selecting Add Column button will place a blank column to the right of the field.
By default, columns are equally sized when added to a section. You can resize the width of columns by placing your pointer over the section and dragging the column divider left or right. Resizing columns is also the only way to resize photo, drawing, and signature fields. To learn more about resizing these field types, visit the Help Center article, "Resize Images and Signatures in the PDF Designer."
Adding Pages
Adding Page Breaks is a great way to get the content you want on a single page. For example, place a page break in front of a screen where you have a Table so it always starts over on a new page and you have the best chance of all items fitting on one page.
You may find after completing more submissions that the page breaks aren't working where they are and need to be moved. Since the PDF can hold any amount of data entered, pages will break automatically to accommodate it and there is no way to know how that organically or consistently happens without submissions.
Click and drag Page Break icon from the Elements tab. You should see a solid, blue line appear under the section where you would like to force additional information to appear on a new page.
