Issue

Users may encounter a Workflow Data Error when attempting to open a form that have a workflow set up for it. This affects all users trying to access the latest version of the form. This error occurs when there is an issue in the form’s workflow settings. Most often, it happens because a required value is missing at the stage within a handoff.

Although the error message suggests resyncing the device (as shown in the screenshot), doing may not always resolve the issue. When this happens it is likely that the underlying cause is the form’s workflow configuration is incomplete.

To resolve these issues, an administrator must update the workflow to ensure it is complete and valid. Once the workflow is configured correctly, the user can resync and try again.

Resolution Steps
(To be completed by an Admin)

  1. Log in to gocanvas.com with an Administrator account
  2. Navigate to Forms.
  3. Select the name of the affected form or click on the gear icon.
  4. Open the Workflow Settings tab.
  5. Review the configuration to identify any missing or incomplete information.
  6. Complete all required fields and select Save to apply the changes.
  7. Instruct users to resync their devices once the updates have been made.

After the workflow settings have been corrected and devices have been resynced, the issue should no longer occur.

Conclusion

Workflows can be manipulated as needed, but if tasks remain unfinished, disabling Workflows or users part of a handoff may cause these issues. Before disabling Workflow or a user, it is best to ensure that doing so will not cause any issues. If an issue does arise, correcting the incomplete workflow settings will resolve the issue.
