Group dispatch and synchronized save data

I've mentioned several times throughout the last couple of years in person, in phone conversations (not sure if I put it on the forum) about group collaboration (egg hunt) capability where a group of users can go after multiple items. If/when an item is completed it disappears from everyone elses queue. I would love to be able to create a dispatch and assign it to an entire group instead of just one individual. Also, If a person did collect a portion but not all of the data necessary to complete the dispatch to a handoff point or to app completion the user could save the "in progress* work and his/her saved data is synchronized so that when the app is re-opened again (doesn't matter who picks it up) the next user can see the previously collected data and move forward from that point. Shift change, personnel changes, dead batteries, broken devices are all examples of where this is necessary. Also would allow for a non-linear approach to completing an app. Eg. If there are 4 parts to a job, parts 2 & 3 get completed before 1 & 4, users can collect data about 2 & 3, save the data so that the user or another user can collect the data about parts 1 & 4 when they happen on a different day/shift using a different device. I know Zapier Zaps and Google Sheets is a workaround for this but it still requires the user to get to a handoff point. Has there been any progress on this elsewhere as a native function? TOC enabled with handoffs would also be great..

  • Hi Keith,

I don't have any updates here, but I do know that when it comes to our roadmap, there's definitely a collaboration feature set being discussed that (potentially) encompasses a lot of what you've captured here. The bad news is that I have no concept of a timeline on that, but the good news is that we are definitely aware (especially now that people are so accustomed to things like Google Drive and One Note) that this is something that needs to be embedded in the product.

As we get closer to having a plan and/or prototypes of this stuff ready for testing, I'll definitely make sure you're on the list!

  • Have huge projects coming up 1st Quarter 2019 where I could really use this... Definitely willing to beta test anything you have.

The wheels of progress turn so slowly when you are watching them but seem to run you over from behind when you aren't paying attention. much like a pot of water waiting to boil. LOL Keep up the great work Sara! Much appreciated!

  • I would like to add my vote to have a feature of dispatching to a group.  This would be very helpful.  We have several devices available to use - but not always is the action that needs to happen dispatched to the correct device.  Then our users are chasing devices around the plant.  Without ability to dispatch to a group - we just can't use dispatch.  I was encouraged from a help request to add my comment here.  I am not too optimistic as the prior comments and discussion were from 2019 and it does not look like there is such a feature yet.  Anything coming soon?  Follow Up feature in beta does not appear to solve this issue for us.

  • Hey Bob,

I understand how this feature would be helpful for the business case you listed as well as the previous comments. We have released the collaboration tool that Sara mentioned above. This feature is called Assignments and it is the other side of the Workflow coin. Whereas Workflow is static, always happens at the same point, and the users it can be handed off to is more controlled, Assignments is more fluid. Submissions can be Reassign, Unassigned, and Claimed. When Assignments is turned on for an app, the Dispatcher can dispatch out a submission to a team lead or themselves for example, they can unassign it from themselves which would put it in the Available Tasks at the top of Home screen in the mobile application. From there, anyone who has a device can claim the submission for themselves to complete.

I think this could be a good workaround for your needs. Please be advised that although Dispatch is available in some form to all plan types, Assignments and Workflow are only available to our clients on the Professional Plan.

To learn more about Assignments, here are some Help Center articles that I think will be helpful:
