Is there a way of preventing users from seeing a calculation field value in the submitted form?

I have an app that has a calculation field that is hidden on the mobile app. The field is calculating a total cost. I do not want the user who is filling out the app to be able to know what this total cost is. Is there a way to hide that field's value from the user when he logs on to the website?

  • Hi Ken,

This is a great question. I thought there was a way (using a little-known/little-used setting in the PDF visibility options, which does hide the field from the web view), but users could still see it from the web by viewing the PDF. So I think, unless someone else has done a nifty work around, this should probably be considered a feature request, perhaps to have a user role that ONLY allows mobile submissions (so no visibility of submissions on the web).

  • Howdy Ken,

Thank you for this feedback! I have moved this question to our Feature Requests page, so other users can comment and up-vote to add support for it becoming a feature.  This is the best way to get ideas to our Development Team for consideration.

  • Another example where having hierarchical, role-based permissions (objects > groups / groups > groups) system wide would take care of a wide array of access related feature requests.  Being able to define a custom role that has submission ability and mobile-app sign on ability only would take care of this.  (It would be very nice to be able to allow mobile app login while not allowing web UI login as well.

  • You could potentially do this with a workaround involving 2 apps:

    - - - App A:

    - - - - - - Make the calculation field(s) invisible (pdf, mobile, and web) or just don't include it/them in this app

    - - - - - - Assign the user(s) who should not see the calculation(s) to this app

    - - - - - - Use this app for a summary PDF output that doesn't include the calculation(s)

    - - - App B:

    - - - - - - Make the calculation field(s) visible (pdf, mobile, or web as needed) in this app

    - - - - - - Assign the user(s) who should see the calculation(s) to this app

    - - - - - - Use this app for the PDFs outputs that include the calculations

    - If your apps only have 1:1 fields (i.e. no loop screens) you could use Zapier to move data between them fairly easily

    - If your apps have 1:many fields (i.e. loop screens) you could possibly work with GC to see what a custom integration would cost and if it would be possible
