This article covers the specifics of using the Test function within the Builder to assess a form's efficacy before Publishing the form, either to test on a mobile device or to users in the field.
Testing a form before Publishing to mobile can save the form builder precious time and help reveal issues before the form is deployed to users.
Testing in Browser
A primary benefit of using the Builder for Advanced Forms is the Test functionality. This feature allows a form builder to interact with their form in a mock-up environment of the mobile application within the Builder. This mimics the form's capability without the need to Publish the form.
Before the Test function was introduced, form builders couldn't guarantee that their forms worked as intended without publishing a version to test on their mobile device. There is a functionality called Testing Status that does make the working version of the form available on mobile only for the form builder who is testing, but this still requires initial setup and switching to a mobile device to test even the minutest of changes.
In order to use the Testing function, your form must be either built in the Builder for Advanced Forms or upgraded from the Legacy Builder.
In the process of building your form, or when you are almost done building, simply click the Test button in the upper right corner of the Builder.
This will open up the Test in Browser modal. Fill out your form as though you would on your mobile device. This modal will display any Reference Data, trigger any Conditions, Calculate any values, allow you to "upload" multi-media files, sign your Signature, draw on a Drawing Field, and fill out a List or Table.
Please Note
Although the Test in Browser function is intended to mimic the mobile experience, there are some limitations to the functionality because it is not capturing any real data. Additionally, some complex Calculations and Conditions may not work as intended. Although this is a time-saving functionality for testing throughout the building process, we still recommend Publishing to mobile to test before making the form available to users. Finally, Loop Screens are not entirely supported at this time.
