Using Time Fields in Calculations

Total time onsite is a simple calculation that has multiple practical applications and is a data point that can be used to make data driven decisions and process improvements.

  1. Drag and drop a Time field into your form and label it "Start Time." Select the field to open Field Settings.
  2. The default style on time fields is AM/PM. The Style drop down from the Field Settings offers three other formats.                           AFB_Time_Field Settings_Style.png
  3. Additionally, the Default Value will be Current Time but this can be changed. Determine the best default time based on when the user will complete this form for the best user experience. Current Time for the start of the day, No Default for the end of the day.                              LB_Time_Field Settings_Default Value.png
  4. Add another Time field to the form and label it "End Time." Determine the field's style and default value. 
  5. Add a Calculation field to the form and give it a descriptive label like "Total Project Time" or "Time Spent Onsite."
  6. Select the field to open Field Settings and select Create Calculation.AFB_Calculation_Field Settings_Create Calculation.png
  7. Expand the first drop down and select "End Time."
  8. Hover over the function and select Subtract.
  9. Expand the second drop down and select "Start Time."AFB_Calculation_Create Calculation_End Time - Start Time.png
  10. Toggle to Format to change the format of the calculation from the default Number to one of the time formats: HH:MM, HH:MM:SS, or MM:SS. Select Done to close the modal.AFB_Calculation_Format_HHMMSS.png
  11. Save and Publish to device to see it in action.
