Perform calculations based on reference data

I have a table of reference data that allows me to select a particular manufacturer and product to lookup numeric technical data (3x drop-downs on a screen). I want to compare minimum or maximum against values measured with test instruments in the field to demonstrate regulatory compliance. It would also be useful to be able to perform basic arithmetic to apply adjustment factors.

The long-standing mirror backdoor approach has significant limitations. I'd like to be able to select data and perform calculations in a single page.

I have the impression that all reference data is treated as text. How about allowing users to optionally specify column data types on reference data to unlock the build-out of calculations? This would likely have a wide range of applications across building services engineering and associated trades.

  • Hi Rob,

I definitely agree that something like this could have wide-ranging applications, simply because it would expedite the process of setting up calculations based on dropdown variables. When I have had to use drop downs in a calculation before, I actually didn't use the mirror backdoor but a hidden number field that was referencing the drop down menu. However, I'm not suggesting you change anything unless necessary as I don't know how you are using the mirror backdoor presently and I know how long it takes to build out all those calculations.

Although we have work around solutions, we are always looking for ways to make using GoCanvas more efficient so I will definitely pass this along to our product team!
