Sync in the Background

  • Hi Dylan,

You can do this on iOS and Android (though they work slightly differently from a technical perspective). Here's the help topic on it: https://help.gocanvas.com/hc/en-us/articles/115011564907-Can-I-automatically-upload-my-Submissions-when-I-have-coverage-.

And here's what it looks like on iOS when I have that setting turned on:

Thanks Sara! Is there a way to do this on the PC app?

  • There unfortunately isn't, so there's the feature request :) I can put in an internal request for this one and try to figure out why (I have a hunch it's because we generally don't expect anyone using the Windows app to be offline, but that's just speculation).

    Thanks!

Also, is there a way to push that setting out to all of our iOS devices?

  • Sorry, nope. It would have to be set up on each device.

Syncing in the background would be awesome.

This is not ideal, but is a pseudo-workaround for GoCanvas for Windows if you can live without a sync after each and every submission:

We have many users that turn off the "Sync after tapping Submit" on the last page of the app/submission (which the app remembers).  Then they work through a batch of several submissions.  When they have completed the batch and are ready to sync, they just click the Sync button which syncs the group of submissions all at once.  It costs them a huge amount of time to wait for a full sync after each submission.

In a somewhat related matter, it would also be nice to be able to do granular / micro syncs with just outbound submissions instead of having to do a full sync each time:
