Hi,
We have multiple customers who wish to use their device's front cam for scanning purposes.
One of them plans to create a Shuttle Bus App that will count the passengers inside the shuttle. Having the option to scan their ID's QR code via the front cam is more convenient than lifting the tablet device and use its back camera to scan their QRs.
The other customer one would like to create a Meeting Room App, it's almost the same with the first scenario (monitor/record the attendance). Since the customer wants to put the tablet on a fixed position in a wall, having the capability to scan using QR Codes via the front cam will be a life-saving feature to them.
Thank you!

Hi Kenneth,
Thank you for feedback! We appreciate hearing the background of specific situations users find themselves in when coming up with ideas like this one. I can see why a front-facing QR code scanner would make your Apps' ease-of-use better on the shuttle bus, as well as in the meeting room.
Thank you again for sharing!
Siobhan
Ditto on the camera for photo capturing. on an iphone it uses the back camera (opposite the display). On a HP elite x2 tablet computer (running windows 10) it only will allow the front camera. Very hard to capture a photo unless the user is in the frame. What information I can find is windows 10 doesn't offer a default for which camera...it is determined by an application. Please add a feature for a user to switch cameras. Even better, if the user can set a default for scanning codes and a default for capturing photos.
Hi Brett,
Thanks for sharing this information about your experience using the Windows application on a hybrid tablet computer -- something for us to definitely keep in mind if we explore implementing this feature.
All the best,
Siobhan
Hi Brett,
I just wanted to follow up with you and let you know we released an update allowing you to switch between front and back facing cameras on your tablet!
While we still don't have the ability to scan barcodes using the Windows application, I hope this added functionality is useful to you in the meantime.
All the best,
Siobhan
Thank you for the update. I haven't had a chance to test this yet but I am certainly happy to hear of the improvement. Best Regards.
This is great news, Siobhan :)
I hope the option rolls out to the QR/Barcode scanner field as well.
Was the shuttle app ever built? I'd love to see what that looks like. Also looking to do one for our Campus Safety Officers to scan QR codes across campus while doing tours.
Howdy Sasha,
I would advise checking out the GoCanvas Application Store, where there are thousands of App templates from users and GoCanvas are available to download to your account for free!
If you don't find a particular template that suits your needs, we can put you in touch with our Professional Services team, to discuss getting a custom built App as a paid service.
I understand from our Support Team that you currently have an active Support ticket on this matter. Our Support Team will be able to provide specific troubleshooting and open a conversation with our Professional Services team, if you are interested in a Custom Build.
