Can I auto-populate dates based on a selection previously made like that?

    Hi Thanh!

You can auto-populate information using dependent Reference Data (some info here: https://help.gocanvas.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003054814-How-to-add-dependent-Reference-Data-one-file-method-), but you would have to put the date in a short text field instead of a date field (date fields don't take Reference Data).

Here's how I'd set up the CSV file:

In the App Builder I've added a Customer Name field populated by Reference Data:

And then a short text field called Date that pulls in the dates associated with that customer:

Hope that might work for you, but let me know if it doesn't or you have further questions!

    Hi Sara,

I am guessing from this thread the answer is no.  you can only auto fill dates from a reference file.  So if I wanted to to enable a time sheet to be auto filled with dates I would need to do this from a reference file.  OK will give that a go.

    regards

Hey Alan, that's right. You might be able to mirror it (using the backdoor, not the mirror field) into a date field... I can see if I can get that working, not 100% sure off the top of my head if that will work.

    Howdy Alan and Sara,

Using the example above, I was able to confirm that the MIRROR backdoor can be used to pull from the short text field into a date field.

The key is making sure that the format of the dates in the reference data match the style of the date field:

In this case, the format of the date in the reference data needs to be MM/DD/YYYY, to match the Style section on the date field. Also, make sure that the Default Value section is set to 'No Default (blank)'.

After including MIRROR in the Receipt Label section, then the date from the short text on the first screen will be mirrored in the date field on the second screen.
