The checkbox “required” be allowed to be contingent on another field’s condition. For example, if an equipment nameplate does exist, then certain attributes from that nameplate are required. But if the equipment factory nameplate is non-existent; then those attributes are not required to be entered into the survey data.

There's a bit of a work-around for this that I'll go into, but otherwise a great feature request.
The way to get around it (which is a bit of a hassle during setup but works flawlessly) is to have two sets of the conditional fields, one of which is require and one of which is not. Here's roughly what that looks like:
