It would be awesome to be able to use tags to call submission and / or reference data fields for use in the PDF Designer (and possibly even in the App Builder).
Being able to do something like just including some tags inline and causing the system to pull the value and put it there would provide a great deal of flexibility and design options.
A use case example might be for inline text (similar to this request) or using reference data without having to have it in the submission (similar to this request) by doing something like this example:
- Add a text object to the PDF, configure it to "say" this:
Hello <Submission.Customer First Name>,
Thank you for your order of:
<Submission.Loop.Ordered Items>
We will get these delivered to you right away at:
<Submission.Customer Address>
Thanks,
<Submission.User Name>
<ReferenceData.CompanyAddress>
<ReferenceData.CompanyTagLine>
<ReferenceData.CompanyWebSite>
....
Depending on the implementation of this, it would also be very cool to be able to use these tags universally for other things as well like maybe auto-email subject line, auto-email message body, submission name, work flow and dispatch items, other PDFs, reports, API, etc. Tons of uses...

2025 Update:
The Community is getting cleaned up! If you are stumbling across this post after January of 2025, this is the most recent solution or answer to the request in this post.
This is not planned at this time. This post will be updated if anything changes.
Clarification: I realize that the example could be created with the existing PDF Designer, the example was meant to just illustrate the use of tags in a simple way. Also the example could be created with a single text object in PDF Designer rather than having to add the columns and rows, the multiple objects, configure the padding, etc.
Yes! This would be amazing!
This would still be useful 6 years later
