Recurring items on a check list

Answered

We are trying to integrate a request for parts and labor to make repairs from the inspection screen.  Currently we have a looped screen for items to be inspected.  If the tech selects that an item "has maintenance issues" he is prompted to to estimate labor time to repair and parts needed.  The parts needed uses reference data but if he needs more than one part for the same labor item I can't figure out how to make it loop at that point  without making the entire check list repeatable.  They like the fact that each item disappears off of the list as they inspect it so they know they got everything.  If I check the allow duplicate entries box, the items do not clear from the check list.  Any suggestions on how to solve the problem?

  • You can have a loop inside a loop.  You can also make the secondary loop screen a conditional based on the "has maintenance issues" or add a "needs multiple parts" field and tie conditional to that so it only shows when needed.

For my use case, my extra questions for the initial loop needed to be on a separate screen from the secondary loop screen, but both the secondary loop and extra questions loop in the primary loop screen.

  • Hi Michelle,

Matt's suggestion above is a great one, though loops within loops get complicated if you're using the PDF Designer (as in... the PDF Designer can't do it).

It sounds like maybe allowing for your reference data to behave more like a checklist might be a solution - you can get to that using a backdoor feature called CHECKBOXES.

In your field settings under more, there's a field called receipt label. Type in CHECKBOXES (yes, all caps). That will make this field pretend to be a multiple choice checkbox field, but still give you the ability to populate with reference data. Heres' what that looks like for me:

This is what that looks like on mobile:

Does that solve the parts needed use case at all?

  • Since the inventory is a rather large data base is there any ability to search in this set up?

  • If we use loop in a loop to get the data we need to quote the job could we use a mirror page to pull just the data we need in the pdf for the inspection to send to the client?

  • You can't mirror to a field outside of a loop, so that won't do it. There are a couple of ways I can envision doing this on a smaller scale, but with a large database I think the advanced loop that Matt recommended is your best bet, especially when it comes to user experience for your folks in the field. That does mean you'll either need to use the standard PDF or talk to your account manager about having a custom PDF created to accommodate the advanced loop.
