MSI Installer for Software Version Updates

My IT Manager was wondering if there'd be a way to get the GoCanvas as an MSI installer. The issue we're having is that everytime there's a new version, he's having to manually go update each Windows desktop/tablet manually since we as a company secure all of our devices from the user being able to download or update anything themselves. If there was an option to have the software as an MSI installer, he would be able to update all those devices through the server. As it stands, we only have 12-15 users on desktops/tablets but I am working on getting more divisions to use GoCanvas so when we get up to 50+ users on desktops, manually updating each device could take him a couple of days.

  • Hi Cynthia,

We don't have a .msi file, but you can do a silent install.

    1. Download the Windows app file from www.gocanvas.com/m
    2. Hit the Windows Key+R to open the command prompt
    3. Browse for the GoCanvas file you downloaded (likely under "downloads")
    4. Add a /S to the end of the file path (It should look something like this:
    C:\Users\Sara K\Downloads\GoCanvas (5).exe/S

(Only it would have your file path instead).

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Sara,

Unfortunately that doesn't help, it still requires each user's device to be updated manually & individually. Will there ever be an MSI installer option?

  • Hi Cynthia,

I'm not sure, to be honest. What I'll do is convert this into a feature request, so that the product team will know that it's something you would like. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Any update on this?  We have over 400 system that will be getting the windows app.  I push the Software using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manger. I can do the /S for the exe but that is all.  App is on the system mostly fine but once an update comes out the app prompts the user to install or not.  My users do not have Admin rights so they can not update.  This installer makes a Desktop icon by default as well.  That is a problem since that icon gets built in the Public User profile this way.  Users will need admin rights just to remove a shortcut.

I downloaded the current exe from the web site but the 1st time you open the app it says an update is available.  I can't even download the most current installer exe to try and stack the installer to update.  Need a much better way to update the app on a windows box.  What can be done about this?  I have to push this App on Nov 1st and at this point this will be a high call generating product.    MSI would make the installer easy but could make updates easy too unless you have another way to do it.  Making it so an enterprise 3rd party patching tool like Ivanti or PatchMyPC update the app would be the cherry on top.  I was told by support to add this into to this link so the product team could look at it.  Please help us.  Thanks

  • Howdy Kristopher,

Thank you for checking in on this Feature Request and sharing specifics on your use case. We do not have an estimated timeline for an MSI Installer for GoCanvas. As I understand from our Internal teams, the silent install is the only suggested workaround at this time.

I understand that the silent install option is not a worthwhile solution for your situation, so I will be sure to share your feedback directly with our Product managers to emphasize the need for an MSI Installer.

  • There are some 3rd party tools that let you use the exe to create an msi, but from what I've heard the Windows App won't be getting any future updates (other than minor updates for bug fixes or break/fix).

Here's a feature request for a web version if you wanted to vote that up

  • Hi,

is there any update here, we are also trying to install this software through Microsoft InTune and require a .MSI file so that we can silently deploy software across our organisation.

  • Hi Terry,

Thank you for your continued interest in this feature request. At this time we do not have an MSI to provide. My understanding is that there are online converting options for an .exe to a .msi that some people have found helpful!

I hope this helps and please be sure to upvote this post if you would find this helpful as well. Our team uses upvotes to help make decisions on our roadmap.

    Thanks,
