There are many forms that when I fill out online that when it is looking for a number only it will only pull up a number keypad on my mobile device instead of the entire keyboard. I'm not sure about all phone models, but on the iPhone I then have to switch from the main keyboard to the section of the keyboard with numbers.
I'd like it so that when I set a field style to 'number' that this would prompt a number only keypad to pop up on the end user mobile device for ease of entering information.
In the photo examples that I found online below: I'd like to see the bottom right numerical keypad only on 'number' style fields.

I just noticed the example above is not entirely accurate. The below example has the decimal key for entering monetary or decimal place entries.

Are you not seeing this version of the keyboard when you do number fields (or short text styled as number fields):
I agree though, I like the big number keyboard a lot.

My apologies, I just checked a field as you mentioned, and yes, it does automatically switch to the semi-numeric keypad. I'd still like to see the big number keypad. Makes for fewer mistakes...
