Recovery of saved (not published) work

Working on a v54 of our survey form. Changed almost every field in almost every part of the version. I saved often in between each part to ensure my work wouldn't be lost in the event of an unexpected computer crash or network issue. I was about 95% done with all edits, but I was waiting for final comments from the rest of the team before I published the new version (v54).

This morning, one of my coworkers went in and accidentally pressed the "publish" button. He freaked out and pressed the "revert to previous version" button almost immediately after this blunder. Every single edit that was saved on the v54 was erased in a click, and now I am a full day behind on progress. The v54 doesn't even exist anymore and a v53 sits in its place. The form edit history shows the existence of v54 and every in between save that I made, but non of it is recoverable.

I would like to propose that there be a way to recover saved (unpublished) work in versions that have not yet been published:)

  • Hi Kaleb,

First, I'm so sorry this happened to you, I can understand how frustrating that must be. We appreciate you bringing this up as a feature request as I'm sure this would be useful for a lot of our clients.

I'm not sure how your team is laid out or what is needed, but a potential way to prevent this in the future until we are able to have this feature, would be to utilize our different role types to allow certain individuals access to editing and publishing forms. Here is our help article with more information - https://help.gocanvas.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006654567-The-Five-User-Roles.

I hope this helps just a little. Those who come by and think this would also be helpful please be sure to upvote this post as well!

    Thanks,

  • Hi John Davis

When you save a form without publishing, it is saved in a Pending state. Publishing will push those changes out and solidify them in a new Version. So although the term is "Save," think of this as a liminal state between the previous version and then next version. It's impermanent because changes can still be made without impacting the version, the users it's published to, or any edits that can be made to submissions from that version.
