GoCanvas will automatically generate a navigation button for certain fields in your form, allowing users to click to get directions to a location. This works especially well in combination with our Dispatch feature, so you can give your users in the field a quick, easy way to navigate to where they’re performing work that day.
If your form has a field containing the word "Address," "Street," or "Line 1," the form will automatically show the navigation button on mobile (no Form Builder work required). There are a few specifications you’ll need to be aware of in order to enable this behavior:
- This will only appear on Short or Long Text fields.
- This will not appear on labels left screens, key field screens, or grid screens.
- If you also have separate fields for Address 2, Line 2, Street 2, City, State, Zip, Locality, Town, Region, Province, County, Territory, Postal Code, and Postcode, GoCanvas will pull that data into the address as well.
When you click on the button, you will be prompted to select an application to use to navigate. Android will show any application on the device that allows this. iOS devices will only show Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze.
Using the navigation button with Dispatch
If you’re Dispatching to users and want them to be able to quickly access directions to the location, simply pre-populate the address fields when you’re creating the Dispatch.
Here’s what that looks like in the Dispatch creator:
And on mobile:

I work in a massive facility with thousands of items spread over thousands of acres of real estate. No street addresses. The things that need to be inspected could be located in the middle of a swamp. Being able to navigate by GPS Coordinate or at least being able to provide an aerial view of the location would be a great feature.
Hi Morgan,
There isn't currently a way to disable this feature, but that's a popular feature request and I'd encourage you to upvote it so that our Product Team knows how useful it would be for you: https://help.gocanvas.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360000452027-Navigation-Feature-Modification.
Thanks,
Sara
How do I disable this feature for when I use the word 'street' in one of my short or long text prompts, but it isn't related to information that directions have any relevance to?
