In the GoCanvas Form builder you can set up a field that will give your users a list of items to choose from. This field is called a Drop Down. Drop Down fields have two different styles: editable and not editable. The Drop Down (Editable) field allows users to enter their own values into the list for a response as well.
Setting up an editable Drop Down list
If you’d like to give your users the ability to add their own value to a drop down list then you first have to change the style of the Drop Down in the Form builder. Follow the steps below to do this:
- Go to Forms and edit the form you want to add the value list too.
- In the palette on the right hand side, add a Drop Down field to your form.
- If not already open, click the gear icon to open the Field Settings.
- In the Fields Settings, enter the values you want to be available to your users in the Value List section by either manually typing options or using a common list. These values will be the ones available for your user to pre-select.
- To make the drop down list editable, click the Style drop down and select Editable.
- Don’t forget to save and publish.
Now you have a value list that your users can enter their own values into!
Using an editable Drop Down list
Once you have the field set up in the Form builder using it is easy. To use the list follow the steps below:
If running GoCanvas version 8.0.0.5 or higher:
- Open up the GoCanvas application on your mobile device and complete it as you normally would until you get to the Drop Down field.
- Click the Drop Down.
- Tap the + button at the top of the screen.
- Type in the new value you would like.
- Hit Apply.
If running an earlier version of GoCanvas:
- Open up the GoCanvas application on your mobile device and complete it as you normally would until you get to the Drop Down field.
- Click the Drop Down.
- Tap the box on the bottom of the screen that says Enter another value.
- Type in the new value you would like.
- Hit Apply.
Now you can finish and submit your form as usual.
Note: Adding a value to an editable Drop Down only applies to the current Submission. It will not show up as an option for other users or on future Submissions.

How can I pick more that 1 value from a drop down field without having to use a loop screen? I know this is an option with a multiple choice field, but I need more than 15 options and I need to be able to use reference data.
